By Holly Alford

Meet Mike and Christy McCravy of MM Cattle Company located in Bowdon, Ga. Parading in their proud colors of purple and white the McCravy’s are achievers. With do respect it is the associations pleasure to select MM Cattle Co as the GCCPA Member Spotlight. The McCravy’s, charter members of GCCPA, are no stranger to the beef industry or the junior livestock program. Their warm welcome, open armed demeanor contributes to their success.

Mike and Christy have a herd of approximately 50 head of predominately Reg. Angus cattle. The Angus cattle are bred for both spring and fall calves with 60-day calving seasons. They use top A.I. sires with emphasis on balanced traits and phenotype producing cattle that are competitive in the show ring and still go out and work in the real world. The fall club calf program at MM Cattle has the same focus as the cattle are expected to be sound and functional. The McCravy’s offer their show calves for sale annually through private treaty, The Gathering Sale and through both the GCCPA and the Angus Sale at the Georgia Beef Expo.

This well planned program has produced competitive cattle to say the least. The McCravy’s were recognized in 2002 by raising the high point Registered Heifer and will once again be recognized as breeding the high point British Heifer at the 2007 GCCPA Awards Program. They have placed in the top ten producers every year they have been eligible and finished a close 2nd for 2007. This past show season has been exciting for the McCravy’s. They produced MM Heather, shown by Katie Gazda who went on to become class winner at the 2006 Angus Junior National, Senior Angus Heifer Calf Champion at the NAILE, Champion Angus at the 2006 GNF, Reserve Champion at the 2007 State Show and picked 3rd Overall Female.

McCravy’s involvement in the beef industry does not end there. Along with his own herd, Mike is the manager of Padgett Farm where he cares for approx. 225 mama cows. He is the president elect of the Georgia Cattlemen’s Association, a member of the Georgia Bull Power group and a director in the Georgia Angus Association. Christy works a full time job but has found time to be involved in the Georgia Cattlewomen’s Association and is a state advisor for the Georgia Junior Cattlemen. She was honored in 2006 for her hard work and dedication by the GCWA as the outstanding member.

The McCravy’s can be found at all the shows supporting and assisting the kids and families who have bought and are showing their stock. Josh Whitworth a product of the junior livestock program is currently working at MM while attending college in West Georgia. He said, “The McCravy’s are hardworking people. They are committed to the program and families that are showing their cattle. They are there to help the kids be successful and achieve.”

With this philosophy the McCravy’s are going to be a legend in the 21st century. They are true innovators of the industry and true leaders in modern agriculture. Take the time to meet Mike and Christy. You will make friends for life.
